Car Tax and MOT

Vehicle Excise Duty (commonly known as Car Tax) is required for most vehicles.

The charge is based on either the CO2 emissions of the model of car, or  its engine size (for cars registered before March 2001).

Although Tax discs were abolished in October 2014 and no longer need to be displayed on the windscreen, if your car is to be used on the road, you will still need to tax the vehicle.

An MOT is a check carried out annually to ensure the vehicle is in a roadworthy condition. Most cars must be tested every year once they are 3 or more years old.

Your vehicle will need a valid MOT to be in force when it is time to renew your car tax.
